On MV Logos Hope in many of the cabins we have small, self-contained bathroom cubicles containing a hand basin, toilet and shower in a space of less than 2 metres2. These bathrooms have a steel floor pan which is overlaid with ceramic tiles. With time water has penetrated to the floor pan and caused rust which is swelling and destroying the tiles further creating sharp edges where the tiles have cracked and in places whole tiles are missing exposing rust scale.
Required skillset:
• Primarily we require skill and experience in the cutting, gluing and grouting of ceramic floor tiles in a bathroom space.
• Skill/experience in the removal of old tiles, treating of rust and painting are also desirable.
• Skill/experience with a wide variety of hand and power tools is valuable.
• More than experience, being able to prove a good eye for detail, care and pride in your work, willingness to take direction from others, good work attitude and care for other team members is very desirable.
Unique challenges:
• The bathroom units are a very small, odd shaped space with a dual level floor requiring extra skill and patience to achieve a quality finish.
• Working on a ship is a unique experience in itself with its own joys and challenges requiring good people skills and a keen mind to seek creative solutions whilst maintaining the quality.
Other expectations:
As a Tiler on MV Logos Hope you will be working with the Accommodation Maintenance Team, a semi-professional group working to maintain the entire interior of the vessel.
As a team our disciplines include welding, HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and A/C) and refrigeration, plumbing and carpentry – which basically covers everything else.
• Whilst your primary function will be tiling, depending on the demands on the rest of the team, you may have to do much of the prep work yourself or even be asked to assist others in their line of work.
• On MV Logos Hope and in the Accommodation Maintenance team we value attitude above skill. You will be expected to maintain a good attitude and working relationship with all those on board.
