There are Somalis across the Horn of Africa who are meeting Jesus for the first time through online Christian content.
OM workers share that the biggest challenge for Jesus followers in the Horn of Africa is a lack of fellowship with other believers. Restrictions from the government and pressure from the community and families mean that many believers practise their faith in isolation.
Abdisa*, an OM worker in the region, explained, “While they can hear the gospel through social media, they do not grow in their faith and are unaware of any sisters and brothers in Christ around them. One of our colleagues lived for seven years as a lone Christian before he met another believer!
“As a result, they often become discouraged, feel lonely and are tempted to return to Islam, the cultural norm.
“We would like to see these isolated believers meet other believers and to be followed up by a mature believer who can disciple them.”
God is providing ways for believers to meet. Abdisa shared the testimony of a young woman in her 20s who visited the livestreams on Somali Christian TV TikTok.
“She would come and listen just to learn more about Christianity,” he said. “Around two months ago, she decided to follow Christ. Meanwhile, another young woman was also having a similar coming-to-faith experience. She was coming to our livestreams, listening and asking questions. She decided to become a believer, too, praise God.
“On one livestream, the first girl shared her testimony. The second girl instantly recognised her voice — that was her sister sharing her story! They were both shocked that they were both believers!
“Praise God, now they have each other for support and have started attending an online discipleship course every Monday so they can learn more about their new faith."
Pray for mature believers who can follow up with and disciple believers scattered across the Horn, providing fellowship and opportunities to grow in their faith.
Pray for those who are ministering through social media in the Horn of Africa. Pray for God to provide for their ministries, for good connections with workers and believers on the ground and for perseverance.
Please pray for the sisters to grow in their faith and pray for God’s protection over their lives. Ask God to bring their whole household to Himself.
