Overview of Singapore

Did you know that Singapore, one of the smallest countries in the world, packs a population of over 6 million people into just 735 square kilometres? Despite its size, the city-state is a global powerhouse – a melting pot of cultures, languages, and faiths.

Singapore's population is predominantly Chinese (76%), followed by Malays (15%) and Indians (7%). This diversity is reflected in its religious landscape: 31% identify as Buddhist, 20% have no religious affiliation, 19% are Christian, 15% are Muslim, 10% are Taoist, and 5% are Hindu. The Church in Singapore is well-resourced and deeply engaged in society. While many congregations focus on local discipleship, there is a growing awareness of the global mission call.

Economically, Singapore is one of the wealthiest nations in the world, with a high standard of living and world-class education. However, beneath the surface of prosperity lies a hidden reality: a large migrant workforce of over 1.5 million workers, many from least-reached people groups from South Asia and other neighbouring countries.

In a nation where comfort can easily overshadow the urgency of global missions, Singapore’s Church is being challenged to embrace her calling to the nations by looking beyond her borders and in her own backyard.

Ministry opportunities in Singapore

OM Singapore was officially registered in 1981, beginning as OM’s Southeast Asia office. With the encouraging state of the Church in Singapore, we have been able to focus our efforts on mobilising and equipping local Jesus followers for God’s global mission. Partnerships with local churches and mission networks have played an integral role in these efforts.

God has strategically placed our office in Geylang, a red-light district in Singapore. Since 2015, OM Singapore’s local ministry team has been sharing God’s love with the many migrant construction workers and sex workers from least-reached places who work and reside in this area.
